Best Way for IT to Make an Impact on the Business in 2015? Show That IT Pros Can Think Like Businesspeople, Infinitely Virtual Says

Pioneering Cloud Server Provider: Next Year, Small and Midsize Businesses Need to Think IaaS – and Get Off the IT Rollercoaster

LOS ANGELES (December 8, 2014) – For small and midsize businesses, what’s going to move the needle in 2015?

According to Adam Stern, founder and CEO of cloud hosting pioneer Infinitely Virtual,
“the best way for businesses to have a breakthrough year in 2015 is to demonstrate that their IT professionals can think like businesspeople. That alone might well constitute an innovation in any number of organizations. Small and midsize businesses likewise need to embrace this as their mantra: ‘Get into the Cloud already. Get off the IT rollercoaster, that three-year cycle of hardware acquisition, depreciation and disposal – rinse and repeat. Start leveraging IaaS, Infrastructure as a Service.’”

Here’s how this trend is likely to play out in 2015, Stern says:
o Businesses will recognize that they can extend their reach with mobile users and branch offices — without the extra cost of building it themselves.
o Companies will stop buying equipment that becomes obsolete before it’s barely beyond the break-in period. They’ll move to eliminate over/under purchasing of gear and licensing, and pay for compute capacity only as needed.
o Organizations will begin to redeploy IT staff to user-facing functions. The smarter organizations will use top people to make IT stakeholders happy. And in doing so, they will defuse the expectation that IT has to serve itself; they will lead by making it serve the business (in other words, internal customers and external customers).
o As a result, these organizations will be able to reduce headcount responsibly. Instead, they will focus on delivering applications rather than building mini-fiefdoms that don’t deliver ROI, much less acknowledge the bottom line.
o Expect such companies to spend less time negotiating with vendors, purchasing software and equipment support, designing infrastructures that simply perpetuate the cycle.
o Best forecast of the new year: these Cloud-savvy organizations will spend more time actually growing the business.

“At long last, the Cloud has become a hospitable place for applications as well as gear,” Stern says. “In 2015, virtually anything will be ripe for virtualization. And that will have profound implications on productivity, resource utilization – including precious human capital – and, of course, profitability.”
