• Enhanced Scalability: Infinitely Virtual’s integration of vSphere5 into its cloud hosting platform enables small and medium sized businesses to easily scale their storage capacity to the highest level needed. With vSphere5, virtual machines can now grow four times larger than in prior releases, to support even the largest applications. Virtual machines can now have up to 32 virtual CPUs and 1TB of RAM. This expanded capacity enables companies to utilize cloud hosting – via Infinitely Virtual – without an investment in expensive physical hardware or infrastructure.
• Business Critical Priority Control: vSphere5’s new Storage I/O Control now supports NFS and network-attached storage (NAS) which enables cloud hosting companies to set storage quality of service priorities per virtual machine for better access to storage resources for high-priority applications. This ensures that virtual machines running business-critical applications have higher priority to access the I/O queue than that of other virtual machines sharing the same datastore.
• Advanced Disk Performance: The Storage Distributed Resource Scheduler (SDRS) uses data store clusters to intelligently balance resource levels and oversee virtual disk placement automatically. Storage DRS and Profile-Driven Storage reduce the possibility of I/O bottlenecks, and provide a level of control over storage resources ensuring the highest disk performance to date. The new cluster-level management capacity of vSphere 5 and the inclusion of Storage DRS drastically increase the capability and fluidity of resource pools, allowing for more customized service level agreements (SLAs).
• Increased Security: vSphere5’s new service-oriented and ESXistateless ?rewall engine restricts access to speci?c services by IP address or subnet. This is particularly useful for third-party components that require network access. Enabled by default, the firewall blocks all incoming and outgoing traffic with exceptions such as DNS and DHCP. Configuring inbound and outbound TCP and UDP ports is an addition, as well as configuring specific rulesets within the ESXi Shell.
• Simplified Provisioning: The new Auto Deploy advanced provisioning technology enables IT to automatically deploy servers “on the fly” and will be able to reduce the time it takes to deploy a datacenter with 40 servers from 20 hours to 10 minutes. Using a rules engine, Auto Deploy is able to precisely install specified images to the hosts of choice. Auto Deploy eliminates the need for a host to boot from any kind of local storage. Since a full boot image is sent to the machine over the network, the host can boot from this image and further reduce the potential for hardware failures.
